We Salute Our 2015 Hunger Heroes

Apr24

Each year, we celebrate outstanding community partners who make our mission possible. We call them our Hunger Heroes for the above-and-beyond investments of time and talent they share with us.

The Sunday before Thanksgiving in Austin should really be named “Austin Empty Bowl Day.” For 20 years, Hester Weigand and Kris Asthalter, have been warming the bellies of Central Texans with their day of soup, fellowship and hand-crafted bowls. The funds raised provide stability to our Kids Cafe after-school meal programs. Their project puts philanthropy within everyone’s reach, inspiring artists, and cultivating the artist within. Thank you to the team at the Austin Empty Bowl project for bringing our community together to nourish our youngest neighbors.

Pastor Joe Bob Ellison is a self-described dreamer. At Reveal Resource Center in Cedar Park, his vision was to bring area churches together to uplift their community through social service. In addition to providing 15 to 20 thousand pounds of food each week, they provide clients with clothing and referrals to other resources that will help improve their lives. A loving atmosphere is at the core of their work, serving nearly 2,000 families each week. Thank you to Pastor Joe Bob for dreaming of a hunger-free community and for making it happen.

Congratulations to our award winners!
