Thank You for Helping Us Raise School Supplies!

“If they don’t have a notebook, what are they going to use to write on,” Laila Riley said.

Eight year old Laila couldn’t have said it better.

Even at her young age, she realizes how important it is to have the proper school supplies to be successful in school.

Though her family buys school supplies through her school, she and her brother Liam still stopped by the store to pick up school supplies for children in need to drop off at the Food Bank.

With smiles on their faces, Liam and Laila placed notebooks, paper, erasers, pencils, glue and crayons in a bin filled with other school supply donations that will benefit local schools.

As the first day of school nears, buying supplies creates an extra hardship for families struggling to make ends meet during the summer. In an effort to help families in ways other than providing hunger relief, the Food Bank partnered with United Way of Greater Austin to host a public school supply drive from July 30 to August 6.

The Baldwin Beauty School also joined the effort and placed bins at their two Austin campuses to help the Food Bank collect supplies.

“I think it’s always a good thing to just give to those who don’t have the necessities that they need for school,” Laila’s mom, Shae Riley, said. “I think we’re going to help them have a good education and they’re going to be able to learn a lot.”

A big thanks to everyone who donated supplies. Our community continues to show us time and time again how generous they are and we couldn’t be more grateful for the support. With your help, children will be ready for the first day of school this fall.
