Hunger Relief Response for Memorial Day Weekend Floods Underway

May26

When the rain is more than our structures can handle, homes, livelihoods, and unfortunately, lives can be destroyed. Over the Memorial Day weekend, intense rain created flood conditions in the Austin-area forcing families to return to water-logged homes, destroyed possessions and devastating community conditions. Because of your support, we can quickly mobilize resources in response to disasters like this.

As a member of the Central Texas Volunteer Organizations Active in Disaster (VOAD), your Food Bank is working closely with government and charitable community partners to coordinate disaster relief support for those living in the affected areas.

To date, our support includes:

  • Providing the Hays County Food Bank with bottled water they need but do not have the capacity to store.
  • Delivering 3,000 pounds of produce and water to the Hays County Food Bank.
  • Assembling, with the help of volunteers, emergency food boxes to be ready for our partner agencies in the San Marcos, Wimberley, Taylor and Lockhart areas. These 25-pound boxes are filled with nutritious, shelf-stable food to support a family for four days.

How to get help

Families in need of immediate food assistance should call 2-1-1 for a pantry closest to their area.

How to help

The best way to help today is to donate funds.

Every dollar donated provides $6 worth of food. Since the need constantly changes in an emergency situation, financial donations are the best way for us to efficiently serve families in crisis. Donate online.

Donate Emergency Supplies

We are in need of nutritious, ready-to-eat foods such as meals in pop-top cans, healthy snacks, soups and other pantry staples. We are also accepting mosquito spray.

You can drop off your non-perishable food donations at our office 24 hours a day, or at any Randalls donation bin.

Volunteer

Adult volunteers are especially needed.  Please sign up online to volunteer at our warehouse or at a mobile food pantry.

Thank you for your support.
