Food for Families Breaks Last Year's Record

Jul13

A brown bag found at Randalls is filled with treasures. Inside, there’s peanut butter to make a tasty snack, macaroni and cheese (a family favorite), chunk light tuna and chicken noodle soup, to provide protein for the day. And it wouldn’t be a complete meal without vegetables, green beans and corn. For a family in need, the riches in the bag couldn’t have come at better time.

Randalls and KEYE-TV partnered once again for Food for Families to provide tasty meals for families facing hunger in Central Texas. We couldn’t be more grateful for our community’s remarkable response! This year the food drive helped provide 89, 134 meals, breaking last year’s record of 61,936 meals.

We couldn’t have done it without the help of KEYE-TV spreading the word and making sure all of our neighbors learned about the food drive.

It was easy for the community to help out and keep our shelves stocked. From June 13 to June 24, Randalls shoppers could purchase a pre-packaged bag of food for $5 and place it in a Food for Families barrel inside the store. They also had the option of donating money, $1, $3 or $5, at the register when prompted on the pin pad.

Since 2006, KEYE-TV and Randalls have joined together to fight hunger during their Food for Families food drive. It’s amazing to see a community come together and we’re grateful for everyone’s efforts to make it an incredible success. We cannot thank everyone involved enough  for helping make sure families have food on their tables, especially during the summer when children no longer have access to the free or reduced price lunches they receive at school and increased summer expenses make it harder for families to provide for their loved ones.
