A Legacy of Giving’s Annual Day of Service is Friday, December 1
Austin, TX - Nearly 800 students from several Austin-area school districts will gather on Friday, Dec. 1, 2017, at the Central Texas Food Bank to unload and donate collections of food and coats for A Legacy of Giving’s (Legacy) ninth annual Day of Service.
Day of Service is a city-wide event that brings together students from diverse schools, nonprofit partners, school district representatives, local media and community members. It is the culminating event for the Food and Coat Drive, which all 42 Legacy schools are leading on their campuses. The food is donated to the Central Texas Food Bank and the warm coats are contributed to Junior League of Austin’s Coats for Kids.
In 2016, the students donated more than 28,000 pounds of food and nearly 2,000 coats and the students are hoping to surpass those numbers this year.
The event will begin at 10:00 A.M. at the Central Texas Food Bank (6500 Metropolis Drive, Austin, TX 78744) and will conclude by 1:00 P.M. Students will enthusiastically unload the food and coats from PODS containers, while wearing Day of Service t-shirts and dancing to music provided by a DJ. Students will be served lunch, donated by H-E-B, participate in nutrition education activities and volunteer inside the Food Bank. This joyous gathering will provide thousands of meals and coats for local residents in need as winter approaches.
