2nd Special Food Distribution for Federal Employees to be Held at Central Texas Food Bank

Event set for Wednesday, January 30th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Food Bank

WHAT:  Special food distribution and food resource fair to assist federal government employees who may still be in need as a result of the recent government shutdown.

WHO:  The Central Texas Food Bank.

WHY:  The Central Texas Food Bank is concerned about how the recent government shutdown has affected the tens of thousands of Central Texas federal employees who suddenly found themselves in need. Even though there’s a 3-week halt to the shutdown, many people are still hurting and trying to make ends meet. To help them navigate this difficult time, we’ll be holding a second special distribution here at the Central Texas Food Bank this Wednesday, January 30th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Our address is 6500 Metropolis Drive, Austin, 78744.

As always, anyone in need can access food through our network of nearly 300 partner agencies and mobile food pantry distributions throughout Central Texas. For the nearest food distribution, just go to centraltexasfoodbank.org and click on “Find Food Now” on the home page.

At Wednesday’s event, federal employees will each receive a 30-pound box of food, bread, a bag filled with produce, and bottled water. We’ll also be providing information on all the ways they can access food through our network and other programs that can provide help, should they need it.

At our first special distribution for federal employees on January 16th, 851 households comprising more than 2,800 individuals received assistance.

The extra demand resulting from the government shutdown has put a strain on the Food Bank’s resources and we need donations and volunteers. If you’re able to help during this critical time, please do so. Go to centraltexasfoodbank.org to donate or volunteer.
