Volunteering's as Easy as 1-2-3

Apr01

Each morning a group of volunteers arrive at the Food Bank and wait for their volunteer shift to start. Those with months or even years of experience and willing to teach others wear a T-shirt and a yellow badge with the words, "Volunteer Leader". Some are returning volunteers who already know the drill. Others are stepping foot in the Food Bank wearing their closed-toe shoes for the first time and look around curiously not knowing what to expect.

As their shift begins, the volunteers inspect, clean and sort food donations that will be distributed to hungry families across 21 counties in Central Texas. What started out as an awkward morning ends in smiles as the volunteers leave the Food Bank knowing they helped provide meals for many of the 46,000 clients the Food Bank serves every week.

Our volunteers are the heart of the Food Bank. From sorting food donations in our product recovery warehouse to serving clients at a mobile food pantry or participating in administrative activities, without them, the work we do wouldn’t be possible. April is National Volunteer Month and we just want to say thank you for everything you do! If you haven't volunteered, sign up today!
