Large-Scale Food Distribution Makes Impact on Hunger in Three-County Area

Jun06

Loud truck horn sounds filled the small road leading to Mexia High School and Junior High as the Central Texas Food Bank fleet and an H-E-B truck rolled into the parking lot of the junior high carrying more than 183,000  pounds of food for a special distribution for area residents in need.

Our Ambassador-at-Large and New York Jets offensive tackle Kelvin Beachum partnered with the Food Bank and H-E-B to host a special drive-thru Mobile Food Pantry distribution in May to help feed food-insecure families in McLennan, Limestone and Freestone counties.

Four car lanes, a first for the Food Bank, were set up to serve families in need. Volunteers and staff from River of Life Worship Center, the Food Bank and H-E-B helped load cars with food during the four hour large-scale food distribution. When it was over, we had served nearly 3,000 families in need. Special thanks to Kelvin, H-E-B and River of Life volunteers for helping us fight hunger and making this special distribution possible.
