Free Holiday Meals in the Austin Area

Nov15

What kind of emotional imprint do we want to leave on our community during this time of the year?

In November hundreds of tables and thousands of chairs will be filled with Austin-area residents of every age, class and cultural background.  But the one thing they’ll have in common is the desire to come together as a community and nourish each other – whether it’s with a meal, conversation or a listening ear.  This scene will be repeated day after day at charities, community centers and Austin’s signature free holiday meal event, the HEB Feast of Sharing at the Palmer Event Center.

As part of our ‘Tis the Season to Help the Hungry campaign, your Food Bank is highlighting communities and individuals who help Central Texans in need have the best memories around the dinner table. Take

Take a look at the calendar of free meals and the participating groups, and you’ll notice that these gifts come from the companies, caring individuals and government.  That’s because it takes everyone to make these opportunities possible, and everyone has a stake in a healthy, nourished community.

We believe that getting to know your neighbors is one of the best ways to understand hunger in Central Texas. We encourage you to support these events and experience first-hand how large the need is.  The face of hunger may surprise you.

You also may be surprised about where your donation turns up.  Your financial donation may be the turkey dinner in a family’s home, an ingredient in a special side dish passed down for generations or provide community meals at several tables at one of our Partner Agencies.  Every gift to the Food Bank during this time of year provides nourishing food to the 40,000 individuals we serve each week, and in turn, makes happy holiday memories even more possible.  You can make an online donation here.

Special thank you goes to the United Way for Greater Austin for compiling this list.
