A Caravan of Kindness Arrived Today

Feb02

We expect the biggest football game of the year to change many lives, but probably not in the way you think.  The Big Game is also the last day of Souper Bowl of Caring, a nationwide youth-led food drive to help Americans who don’t have enough to eat. The estimated 62 million football fans who gather to celebrate great athleticism on the field, and yes, eat lots of celebratory foods, are encouraged to help their neighbors in need by purchasing pre-packaged bags of food and donating funds at their local grocery store.

Today a caravan of trucks from H-E-B filled with nutritious food donated by our community arrived. This first shipment of food from the Souper Bowl of Caring consisted of 20 pallets of peanut butter, 15 pallets of canned corn, 15 pallets of canned green beans, 16 pallets of brown rice and eight pallets of canned tuna. Just think, this is just the beginning, and much more food is coming our way because of your generous support.  Thank you.

Our goal to raise two million meals through Souper Bowl of Caring is made possible by our partners, Central Market, H-E-B, Randalls, FOX 7 Spirit of Sharing, KEYE-TV, Telemundo Austin, KVUE, KXAN, The CW Austin, KBVO, Time Warner News, Univision 62, UniMás Austin, KASE 101 Today’s Country, AM1300 The Zone, KVET Austin 98.1 FM, Latino 102.7, 107.1 La Z, Incite, 104.3, 107.7 Mas Variedad, Austin American-Statesman, The Jewish Outlook, Jewish Federation of Greater Austin and the Capitol Area Council Boy Scouts of America.

We’ll keep you updated as we tally up the donations.  If you missed out on Souper Bowl of Caring, there’s still time to make a difference. Volunteers are needed in our warehouse to help sort through the many pounds of donated food so we can get it out the doors quickly.  Please sign up for a shift today.
