Gourmet Boutique Meat and Poultry Product

On May 3, Gourmet Boutique, L.L.C., a Jamaica, N.Y., firm, voluntarily recalled approximately 286,320 pounds of fresh and frozen meat and poultry products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes.

The fresh meat and poultry salad products were produced between April 19 and April 24. The frozen products were produced between October 23, 2007, and April 23, 2008. Recalled products were sent to food service and retail establishments nationwide.

The problem was discovered through microbiological sampling by FSIS and the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. FSIS has received no reports of illnesses associated with consumption of products subject to this recall.

Chang Farm Soy Sprouts

On April 19, The Department of Public Health (DPH) issued a warning not to consume any soy sprouts produced from Chang Farms in Whatley Massachusetts because of the presence of bacteria called Listeria monocytogenes (L. monocytogenes).

The affected product is packaged in 12 ounce plastic bags, labeled under the Chang Farm Brand as Soy Sprouts, and have a "Sell By" date of April 19, 2008. At this time, DPH is aware of the affected product being distributed at several retail outlets throughout the state including Stop & Shop, Market Basket, and Whole Foods Markets.

Grocery stores, food service, and other retailers in Massachusetts should remove this product immediately. 

To date, no illnesses associated with this product have been reported to DPH. L. monocytogenes is a bacteria that is widespread in the environment and is sometimes found in food.  If contaminated food is eaten, it can result in a mild illness called listerial gastroenteritis or a severe, sometimes life-threatening illness.

Private Selection Light Churned Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

On April 7, Inter-American Products, Inc., a division of The Kroger Co., announced a recall on two codes of Private Selection Light Churned Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream in 1.75-quart containers with a "Sell By" date of December 3, 2008.

·  The two codes are: DEC0308 8070 and DEC0308 8080.

·  The ice cream is being recalled because it may contain egg, soy, and wheat, which are not listed in the ingredient statement. People who have an allergy to eggs run the risk of serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume this product.

·  The ice cream was distributed to Kroger stores in Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Texas.

·  No other Private Selection Ice Cream products are affected by this recall. No illnesses have been reported.

Malt-O-Meal Unsweetened Puffed Rice & Unsweetened Puffed Wheat Cereals

 
On April 5, Malt-O-Meal of Minneapolis, MN announced a voluntarily recall of its unsweetened Puffed Rice and unsweetened Puffed Wheat Cereals


The product affected is marked with "Best If Used By" codes between April 8, 2008 (coded as "APR0808") and March 18, 2009 (coded as "MAR1809") and they may have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The recalled product was distributed nationwide, marketed under the Malt-O-Meal brand and as some private label brands including Acme, America's Choice, Food Club, Giant, Hannaford, Jewel, Laura Lynn, Pathmark, Shaw's, ShopRite, Tops and Weis Quality. 

We have confirmed that none of the products being recalled were processed or offered through the national office.

Local donations from April 4, 2007 may contain the recalled product.

Taylor Fresh Foods Cut Canteloupe and Mix Cut Fruit

On April 3, Taylor Fresh Foods, of Salinas, California issued a voluntary recall of selected fresh cut fruit products, which may contain cantaloupe from the Honduran grower Agropecuaria Monteliban that has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

The products being recalled include cut cantaloupe and mix cut fruit in bowls and trays of all sizes distributed by Taylor Fresh Foods. Retail and convenience store products involved were removed from sale prior to Monday, March 24. Foodservice distributors, who sell their own brand, have been notified.

  • The labels of the recalled products read:

Taylor Farms Gourmet Fruit Tray featuring Creamy Yogurt Dip, Taylor Fresh Melon Mix, Taylor Fresh Fruit Mix, Fresh Fruit Tray with Creamy Strawberry Dip, with Best if Used By Dates before March 30, 2008. Any dates after this are not affected.

Mrs Baird's Bread Product

On April 1, Mrs Baird's Bakeries announced a voluntarily recall of packages of 4-inch buns because the product contains milk that is not listed on the label. Individuals with allergies to milk run the risk of a serious or life threatening reaction if they consume this product. No illness or allergic reactions have been reported. No other products are involved in this voluntary recall.

The buns were sold at Costco stores in North Texas in a two count package containing 24 buns and to restaurant and institutional customers in Texas and Oklahoma in 12 count packages.

With a best by date of April 8, 2008.

Grand Supercenter Product

On April 1, Grand Supercenter, Inc. of Lyndhurst, NJ issued a recall of some units of Frozen Salted Croaker because they have the potential to be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium, which can cause life-threatening illness or death.

HC Fresh Frozen Salted Croaker was distributed through H Mart stores including H Mart and Super H Mart in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Texas area.

The label of the recalled products read:

Stonyfield Farm Blueberry Yogurt

Organic yogurt maker Stonyfield Farm has announced a voluntary product recall of its non-fat blueberry yogurt products. The recall comes in response to the possibility of glass fragments in the product. Although the company believes the problem is not widespread, it is taking this precautionary measure to ensure the safety of its consumers.

Affected products are 6-ounce Fat Free Blueberry yogurts carrying one of following product codes printed along the cup bottom that start with the following dates: “Apr 14 08,” “Apr 15 08,” “April 25 08,” or “Apr 26 08.”
