Summer Food Service Program
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) is a Federal resource for local agencies looking to combine a feeding program with a children's summer activity program. For low-income communities, the program provides free, healthy meals for children aged 18 and younger. You can help ensure that children from low-income families receive nutritious meals during long school vacations.
Reinbursement & Compensation
- The program reimburses agencies who serve approved meals to qualifying children aged 18 and under.
- Agencies are reimbursed for meals served to individuals aged 19 and over if those individuals participate in a public or nonprofit school program and have been determined by a public educational agency to be mentally or physically handicapped.
- Agencies who prepare their own meals may also receive USDA-donated commodities as a supplement to their reimbursement.
SFSP Sponsorship Requirements
- Sponsors must be organizations that are fully capable of managing a food service program.
- Schools, public agencies and private nonprofit organizations may apply to sponsor the program.
- All sponsors receive training before starting the program to learn how to plan, operate and monitor a successful food service program.
