Volunteers Needed as Souper Bowl of Caring Gains Momentum
Two weeks of city-wide initiatives results in more than 200 tons of food to be processed to help fight hunger in Central Texas

Austin, TX —

With the stage set for Super Bowl XLVI, Central Texas residents have risen to the challenge of tackling hunger through the Souper Bowl of Caring, and are raising food and funds at a record clip. More than 200 tons of food has already been collected since the program kicked off on January 12, with a lot more expected through February 5, when the initiative ends.

As the donated food is coming in faster than volunteers can sort it and storage space becoming a concern, more volunteers are desperately needed to help inspect, sort and package the food ready for distribution. Volunteers are especially needed Monday through Wednesday, with a limited amount of spaces also available Thursday through Saturday. Sign up to volunteer at www.austinfoodbank.org or call 512-282-2111.

Souper Bowl of Caring works in partnership with over 200 area congregations, school and businesses; competing food retailers H-E-B, Central Market and Randalls Food Markets and Austin’s top media outlets: Fox 7; KEYE TV Channel 42; Telemundo Austin; KVUE-TV; KXAN Austin News; Univision KAKW 62; Telefutura Austin; YNN; The CW Austin; My Austin TV; 107.1 La Z; 98.1 KVET; KASE 101; AM 1300 The Zone; La Que Buena 104.3; La Jefa 107.7; Austin American-Statesman; The Jewish Outlook; CultureMap Austin and the Capitol Area Council Boy Scouts.
