Food Bank Expands Support in Waco
Additional Delivery Routes Mean More Food for Hungry Wacoans

Austin, TX —

Effective May 1, 2008, the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas will add new regional delivery routes to its McLennan County Partner Agencies.

"Food Banks across the country are seeing expanding community need for food assistance," said David Davenport, CAFB President & CEO. "This is just one way we're responding."

Food pick-up sites will be established in the northern, central and southern locations of the Waco and Bellmead area to better support their agencies. Additionally, the Food Bank has allotted an extra delivery truck for this new route, providing more food distribution to the communities.

Food deliveries will take place on the 2nd and 4th Monday, Tuesday and Thursday of each month; and on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month. Partner Agencies will be assigned to one of the new delivery locations according to proximity, which will simplify their supply pick-ups.

Waco has the second-largest concentration of food pantries in the Central Texas area – currently 23 Partner Agencies that the Capital Area Food Bank serves. Prior to the additional routes, nearly all of these agencies traveled to Bellmead for delivery pick-ups, and orders were frequently cut back on over-crowded trucks.

"By reducing fuel expenditures and adding an additional truck, resources are consolidated in the right direction – feeding the hungry," said Glenda Shayne, CAFB Vice President of Community Programs.

Ultimately, this improved service will be time-saving, economical and increase community outreach.  "We are confident about this growth, and eager to help empower the agencies that serve those in need," said Shayne.
