Empty Bowls Fill Body and Soul Austin, TX — The 15th annual Austin Empty Bowl Project is this Sunday, November 20. This unique, Austin favorite runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at a new venue, the Marchesa Hall and Theatre, Lincoln Village, 6226 Middle Fiskville Road, Austin (just behind Highland Mall). In 2010, 2,000 people attended the Austin Empty Bowl Project and raised more than $88,000 for Capital Area Food Banks’ (CAFB) Kids Cafe. Kids Cafe is a CAFB afterschool program serving 400,000 nutritious meals a year to hungry central Texan children. Area potters and students have created thousands of handcrafted ceramic bowls for the event; attendees select bowls and fill them with their choice of gourmet soups provided by area chefs. Participants then gather to share in a meal, enjoy live music and give thanks. The bowls are theirs to keep for $20 each. For every bowl purchased, the Food Bank can provide 45 meals. Dozens of bowls signed by celebrities will be available for auction as well. Celebrity participants include: Joan Rivers, Chef Anthony Bourdain, Lady Longhorn Coach Gail Goestenkors, Molly Shannon, K.D. Lang, Batman (Adam West), Sergio Mendes, The Biscuit Brothers and many more.
