Children Welcome to Enjoy Free, Nutritious Lunches This Summer Food Bank sponsoring 30 Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) sites across Travis County all Summer
Austin, TX — WHAT/WHO:
- SFSP is a federally funded program that provides free
meals to children age 18 and under during the summer, when National School Lunch
and School Breakfast Program meals are unavailable. SFSP ensures children have
the nutrition they need so they are ready to learn when school starts in the
fall. School is out, but hunger does not take a
vacation.
- Lunches are served June 6 through August 12, 2011.
- Capital Area Food Bank (CAFB) expects to serve 40,000 lunches this
summer
- CAFB President & CEO Hank Perret will kick off the SFSP program at a
special event in
South Austin with:
- Executive chef of Congress and Second Bar

children, who will then be served his nutritious lunch by various Austin dignitaries, El
Buen and CAFB staff.

- Speakers will be
available for media interviews 10:45 - 11:15 a.m.
- Lunch will be served
at 11.30 a.m. for the children.
- 41% of Food Bank
clients are children.
- 65% of Travis County students qualify for free or
reduced-price lunch.
- Meals will be provided to all children without charge
and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin,
sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the
meal service.
