CENTRAL TEXAS’ LARGEST FOOD DRIVE
Souper Bowl of Caring Central Texas kicks off January 13

Austin, TX —

WHO & WHAT

For the third consecutive year, H-E-B, Central Market and Randalls Food Markets are teaming up with local media outlets CBS42; FOX 7; KVUE-TV; KXAN Austin News; The CW Austin; News 8 Austin; My Austin TV; Telefutura; Telemundo; Univision-KAKW 62; KASE 101; The River 102.3; Relevant Radio 970; La Que Buena 104.3; La Jefa 107.7; as well as the Austin American-Statesman for a cause that is important to each of them – hunger. They have partnered to host Souper Bowl of Caring Central Texas, set to take place leading up to Super Bowl weekend. Proceeds will benefit the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas, which serves more than 350 hunger relief agencies in 21 Central Texas counties. A goal has been set to raise 750,000 meals for hungry Central Texans.

The food drive will kick off on Wednesday, January 13 at H-E-B and Pecan Springs Elementary School and run through Super Bowl Sunday, February 7, 2010. During this time, customers can purchase a pre-packaged bag of food or make a cash donation at one of more than 57 participating H-E-B and Randalls grocery stores. In addition, more than 90 local churches and area schools will conduct food and donation drives.

New this year—the Austin Toros are getting in the game and giving back to shoppers who purchase a bag of food or make a cash donation at H-E-B, Central Market or Randalls. After donating, shoppers can take their receipt to the Austin Toros box office and get two tickets for the price of one to any home game through February 3.

The Souper Bowl of Caring is a national non-profit organization seeking to transform Super Bowl weekend into the nation's largest youth-led weekend of giving and serving.
