A Simple “Like” Can Help the Food Bank Win $1 Million
Capital Area Food Bank Asks Central Texans to Help Win Walmart’s Fighting Hunger Facebook Challenge

Austin, TX —

Austin, TX – With Texas ranking among the nation’s top states for food insecurity, the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas (CAFB) is asking residents of the 21 Central Texas counties it serves, to participate in the Walmart Fighting Hunger Facebook campaign. The food bank that serves the community with the most “likes” will be awarded $1 million in grants.

“Walmart is giving Central Texans an incredible opportunity to help feed hungry families,” said CAFB Interim President and CEO, Hank Perret. “All it takes is a click of the mouse and you can help bring resources to those in need.”

Visitors to Walmart’s Fighting Hunger Facebook page will help determine which community in America will receive a $1 million grant to fight hunger. Five runner-up communities with the highest support will receive $100,000 each. Through December 31, Texans can cast their vote at http://fightinghunger.walmart.com.

Ways To Help

  1. Tell all of your friends by email, Facebook and Twitter to visit http://fightinghunger.walmart.com/city/Austin-Round-Rock-TX and 'like' the page.
  2. Click on the "get friends involved button" on the campaign page to post a message and the link to your Facebook wall.  Add a special message that would mean a lot to your friends. This is key. Some examples of what you could say to encourage your Facebook friends to participate:
    • Demand is up 30-40% over last year. Folks who used to donate are now in need of help.
    • CAFB makes it possible for the 355 Partner Agencies in Central Texas to help those in need. Please share.
    • You can do your part to help the hungry in Central Texas without leaving home, it just takes 1-click.
    • Can you imagine how many Central Texans the Capital Area Food Bank could feed with $1,000,000? I'll give you a hint: every $5 donated provides $25 worth of food.
    • Please share this opportunity with everyone. There's never been a better reason to be on Facebook.
  3. Send an email about the campaign to your friends.

Thank you for your support. Together we can bring $1 million to nourish hungry Central Texans and turn Hungry Holidays into Happy Holidays.
