The Hunger in America 2010: Central Texas Report reveals:
- 45,000 people each week rely on the Capital Area Food Bank.
- There is a 79% percent increase since the findings reported in Hunger in America 2006.
- 41% of our clients are children.
- 95% of our Partner Agencies say they could no longer serve their clients if the Food Bank shut down tomorrow.
- More than 1/3 of our older clients go extended periods without food.
- 1 in 5 families we serve experience the physical pain of hunger.
- Almost half of our clients have at least one working adult at home.
- Almost half of the families we serve have to choose between buying food and paying utilities
- 82% of our clients are not homeless.
What makes CAFB a great community investment?
Your donation goes a long way. Every $5 donation provides $25 worth of nutritious food for hungry Central Texans.
We set the standard among the national food bank network for efficient and effective capture, handling and distribution of food. We return 98 percent of all donated resources back to the community in programs and food distribution. Nearly 98% of all donated resources received by CAFB are returned to the community in programs and services.
