What's this?
Hunger Fact:

Quality fruits, vegetables, dairy products and meat are essential to a balanced diet but can be expensive and difficult for food assistance programs to provide on a regular basis. To fill that gap, the Food Bank rescues fresh foods from area grocers and wholesalers and distributes them throughout our 21-county Central Texas service area.

The Food Bank can handle and store a large amount of perishable food and distributes it quickly to those in need. This efficiency benefits Partner Agencies and food donors, and it encourages donors’ participation.

The Food Bank's transportation and warehouse staff members follow strict food handling guidelines to ensure that the food safely reaches the people who need it. The Food Bank's Partner Agencies also receive extensive training on proper food handling procedures.

Our Impact in FY 2012-13

The Food Bank rescued more than 13 million pounds of perishable, nutritious food items from the food industry including supermarkets, farmers, distributors and manufacturers.
