Why is the Food Bank a great community investment?
Our efficient and effective capture of, handling of and distribution of food is made possible by the broad support from government, businesses, charities, foundations and individuals in the community. The result: 96 percent of all donated resources back to the community in the form of programs and food distribution at a time of ever-growing demand on our services. What does this community support look like in Central Texas?
- We're able to deliver the equivalent of the weight of a Boeing 737 jet in food every day. That's 29 million pounds of food a year!
- In the past 12 months, 19,000 people volunteered with the Food Bank donating 93,000 hours.
- We've rescued 11 million pounds of food in the last 12 months from local grocers and wholesalers that would have ended up in the trash.
- The Food Bank is rated four out of four stars by Charity Navigator.
