“The Biggest Loser” Pound for Pound Challenge

This year, lose weight while helping to feed the hungry.  We invite you to join us in the Pound for Pound Challenge created by NBC’s “The Biggest Loser” and Feeding America.  For every pound you lose through June 30, 2010, General Mills will donate $0.14 cents to Feeding America – enough to deliver one bag of groceries to the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas to help feed our hungry Central Texas neighbors!  All you have to do is take the pledge, begin your sensible diet and exercise plan, and watch your weight loss generate pounds of groceries for those in need!

Verde Girls, a family-owned and operated local jeweler will donate 50 percent of their profits from March 21 – June 30, 2010 to the Capital Area Food Bank to help nourish hungry Central Texans! Austin Kids Expo

Don’t miss out on a fun-filled day featuring entertainment and activities from Sea World, summer camps, local stores and breakfast with characters like Batman, Superman and Cinderella! Come race or cheer family and friends in the Austin Motorcyclist’s 20th Annual Bunny Run! The children’s Easter egg hunt begins at 11 a.m. and the adult hunt begins at noon, followed by a party with music, food, fun and more! The event is $5 per person, $3 for the party only or bring 3 healthy, non-perishable food items to benefit the Capital Area Food Bank.

Give to Game is a board gaming event in Austin whose goal is to collect food and raise funds for the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas. Come join us on Saturday April 10th for a day of open gaming, and a chance to win some great door prizes! 17th Annual Austin Reggae Festival

Join thousands of reggae fans and enjoy great music, vendors, and family fun.  NEW THIS YEAR – A third day has been added to the festival.  Daily entrance fee is $15 with a requested donation of two healthy, non-perishable food items.  Purchase tickets in advance for $12.50 online at www.austinreggaefest.com.  Proceeds benefit the Food Bank.  Note:  no dogs allowed.

Shred Day 2010

Jump-start your spring cleaning with a free event to assist with home records management, identity theft protection and recycling! Households can bring up to five file boxes of paper records to be shredded on-site. Monetary donations will be accepted for the service to benefit the Capital Area Food Bank. 18th Annual National Association of Letter Carriers “Stamp Out Hunger”

It’s the largest one-day food drive in the nation!  Letter carriers will collect bags of healthy, non-perishable food while on their routes across the United States.  Look for your bag in your mailbox, fill it with healthy, non-perishable food and set it by your mailbox on Saturday, May 8 to be picked up. Donations collected in Central Texas stay local.
