Community Programs

In addition to providing weekly food distribution to more than 355 Partner Agencies and disaster relief, CAFB conducts several programs that serve hungry Central Texans. All programs are free of charge.

Partner Agency Education Program

The Partner Agency Education Program was launched in late 2006 to strengthen Partner Agency capacity, ensure improved access to food for underserved populations and areas, and ultimately advance the Food Bank's mission to nourish hungry people and lead the community in ending hunger.

CHOICES

CHOICES, a nutrition education program, is funded in part by the USDA's SNAP-ED (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) to help individuals and families make smart choices at mealtime.  The goal is to improve the likelihood that persons eligible for the SNAP will make healthy food choices within a limited budget, and choose physically active lifestyles consistent with the current Dietary Guidelines for Americans and MyPyramid.

SNAP (Food Stamp) Outreach & Education

SNAP is a key way to address the nutritional needs of low-income Texas families. However, many barriers to participation remain. The Food Bank removes some of those barriers with its outreach and application assistance program.

Fresh Food for Families

Sixteen distribution sites across Central Texas provide families with quality fruits and vegetables and a total of 21 days of distribution each month.  FFFF provides an average of more than 100,000 pounds of produce to more than 3,600 families each month.  Serves more than 14,000 people each month.

Kids Cafe

The 32 Kids Cafe sites in Central Texas serve more than 35,000 meals per month to more than 2,800 children in need. This
after-school program provides a safe, nurturing place where neighborhood children receive a hot, nutritious dinner, as well as help with homework from caring individuals.

HOPE

The 17 Healthy Options Program for the Elderly (HOPE) sites provide senior citizens living on a fixed income with supplemental staple groceries on a monthly basis. Partner Agencies already working with senior citizens aged 60 and older help the Food Bank serve more than 2,400 seniors an average of 20 pounds of groceries each month.

Regional Food Delivery

For Partner Agencies serving rural populations, Regional Food Delivery (RFD) brings perishable and packaged food items to 21 conveniently located drop sites in the outlying areas of Central Texas.  The Food Bank delivers more than 105,000 pounds of food and grocery products each week to 121 Partner Agencies.

Central Texas Food Rescue

Through CAFB's Central Texas Food Rescue program, thousands of pounds of fresh, nutritious, high-quality foods that would otherwise be thrown away by local retailers and wholesalers are picked up and redistributed to Partner Agencies
