COMMUNICATIONS INTERN:
Internship Description:
Provide support to the Vice President, Communications, and the Advocacy and Online Marketing Manager in their efforts to educate the public, media and community organizations of the mission, activities, programs, events and other services of CAFB through public relations and communications programs.
Duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Edit newsletters and other publications for clarity, accuracy and style.
- Edit and/or update CAFB website copy. Submit CAFB content to third-party websites.
- Conduct web-based research.
- Update community events calendars with Food Bank events.
- Design and create collateral such as flyers, signage, PowerPoint presentations, web banners and other materials.
- Create and update media coverage archives system.
- Update media contact lists and address lists.
- Attend meetings with the Vice President, Communications, to gain knowledge of job and industry.
- Serve as volunteer at events benefiting CAFB (some weekends).
- Fulfill some clerical projects, as needed.
Internship Qualifications:
Applicants must be full-time students working toward a degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing or related field.
Qualifications include but are not limited to:
- Exceptional communications skills.
- Exceptional grammar, spelling and punctuation.
- Copy editing experience and/or proficiency.
- Outgoing, personable and confident demeanor.
- Ability to interact with personnel at all levels of the agency.

Internship Description:
The CAFB Community Events Intern will be integral in helping to maintain our community partnerships through administrative and project management support. This intern will assist with, as outlined by the CAFB Community Events Manager, special research projects, project management responsibilities related to departmental initiatives, partnership-building between CAFB and both public and private entities, and projects and programs targeted to improving customer service. Customer relation skills and project management skills acquired during this internship would be beneficial in any business area, especially in marketing.
Internship Qualifications:
The CAFB Community Events Department is looking to appoint an intern with some knowledge of marketing concepts, an interest in project management, and a desire to work in a fast paced agency environment. The candidate should have the ability to problem solve and meet deadlines. A sense of humor and humility are essential. Additionally, the ideal candidate will:

Job Description:
Assist the Community Events Manager with administrative duties for upcoming events. The spring intern will be responsible for in-kind donation solicitation to build prize packages for Putt a Hole in Hunger Golf Tournament and the Austin Chronicle Hot Sauce Festival.
- Manage inventory of event equipment, conduct periodic inventory of equipment, and recommend replacement of equipment as required.
- Assist the Community Events Manager with acknowledgments and recognition for Community Event partners.
- Assist the Community Events Manager by meeting, training, and working with event volunteers as needed.
- Assist the Community Events Manager to promote upcoming Community Events.
- Respond to inquiries about coordinating a Community Event as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Community Events Manager.

DEVELOPMENT RESEARCH INTERN
Internship Description:
The primary function of development research is to provide information that will enable the development team to create informed strategies in all aspects of fundraising. Donor analysis and market research will utilize internal and external sources of information. The goal of prospect research is to proactively identify, research, and rate current and prospective major donors to the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas using internal resources, the Internet, online databases, and other publicly available resources to obtain information on those current and prospective donors.
Primary Internship Responsibilities:
- Perform donor analysis of CAFB donor giving patterns in comparison to industry trends.
- Analyze previous fundraising campaigns focusing on developing trends.
- Market research, including possible assistance with the design and implementation of a donor survey.
- Conduct targeted prospect research on current and prospective donors using a variety of sources. Evaluate and synthesize the information into concise profiles designed to assist the fundraising team to build stronger relationships that result in increased financial support.
- Assist with the prospect management system, entering prospects, call reports, and related information; in addition, analyzing major donor activity.
- Participate in strategy development with the Development Team.
- Perform additional duties as needed.
This is a wonderful opportunity for an undergraduate student considering a career in nonprofit management or fundraising.
Ideal candidates should have strong research experience in print reference materials and the Internet; organizational and analytical skills; excellent communication and writing abilities; knowledge of basic statistics; and keen attention to detail. Training will be provided as needed.

Internship Description:
Provides support in functional areas of human resources department, which may include recruitment and employment, personnel records, employee relations, job descriptions, job evaluation, compensation management, benefits administration, organization development and training.
Primary Internship Responsibilities:
- Performs general research and analysis on HR projects, such as compensation surveys, cost of living increases, and benefit cost savings.
- Update job posting and job description templates.
- Reviews, screens, and tracks resumes for staffing needs.
- Assists in the interview process.
- Updates job postings online and in physical locations.
- Assists with benefits enrollment and management.
- Assists with training preparation.
- Participates in preparing for and conducting new-hire orientation.
- Learns general office administrative processes of the human resources department.
- Perform additional duties as needed.

Internship Description:

RECOVERY SPECIALIST INTERN
Internship Description:
The CAFB Recovery Specialist Intern will be integral in helping train, assist and manage volunteers in the Product Recovery (PR) area, where volunteers inspect, sort and prepare donated food for distribution. This person will also assist the Product Recovery Manager, the Assistant PR Manager and the Volunteer Services Coordinator with the day-to-day PR operations. Customer relations skills and project management skills acquired during this internship would be beneficial in any business area, primarily in people management.
Intern Qualifications:
Applicants must have a desire to inspire and enable people and the ability to work efficiently in a fast- paced environment. The candidate should work well independently, be a self-starter, and adhere to direction and deadlines. A sense of humor and humility is essential. The ideal candidate will be:
- A full-time or part-time student currently enrolled in classes
- Able to work:
- Mondays 12:30-5:30 p.m. and
- Thursdays 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. and
- Saturdays 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Job Description:
- Assist in instructing and directing volunteers (i.e.: how to inspect, sort and box donations)

VOLUNTEER RESOURCES INTERN
Internship Description:
The Volunteer Services Intern will provide key support to this CAFB department. Gain valuable experience in marketing and volunteer management with a nonprofit agency in the following areas:
Recruitment and Scheduling: Verify group projects and update online calendar, post new volunteer opportunities and internships to websites and monitor activity, respond to inquiries and schedule volunteers for seasonal events and projects.
Marketing: Participate in informational fairs and seasonal community events by providing the public information on ways to support CAFB, collecting food and monetary donations, etc.
Stewardship: Create and maintain volunteer bulletin board, generate certificates and thank you notes, and maintain volunteer sign-in area including nametags, time sheets, and binders.
Data Collection and Management: Track volunteer information, maintain records, and create reports which are used to monitor programs, assess needs, identify trends, and broaden our reach into the community.
Internship Qualifications:
The Volunteer Resources Department is looking for a motivated, organized, detail-oriented intern who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and is interested in gaining experience with project management, marketing, and the nonprofit sector. This position is perfect for a student seeking academic credit. The ideal candidate will be professional, outgoing, confident, proficient with Microsoft Office products and Internet research, and able to multi-task. In addition, the ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, initiative, discretion, good judgment, and a desire to learn. This internship will require working some evening or weekend events.

Food Resources Major Donations VISTA
The Capital Area Food Bank of Texas in Austin seeks a Food Resource Research and Development VISTA. This position will develop processes and procedures to research, identify and monitor outreach and marketing opportunities to wholesale and large retail food companies within the Food Bank's 22 county service area. This VISTA will also develop a comprehensive plan of ongoing donations or minimal cost purchases of nutritionally balanced food for distribution to those the Food Bank helps serve.
