RECOVERY SPECIALIST INTERN

Internship Description:
The CAFB Recovery Specialist Intern will be integral in helping train, assist and manage volunteers in the Product Recovery (PR) area, where volunteers inspect, sort and prepare donated food for distribution.  This person will also assist the Product Recovery Manager, the Assistant PR Manager and the Volunteer Services Coordinator with the day-to-day PR operations. Customer relations skills and project management skills acquired during this internship would be beneficial in any business area, primarily in people management.

Intern Qualifications:
Applicants must have a desire to inspire and enable people and the ability to work efficiently in a fast- paced environment. The candidate should work well independently, be a self-starter, and adhere to direction and deadlines.  A sense of humor and humility is essential.  The ideal candidate will be:

  • A full-time or part-time student currently enrolled in classes
  • Able to work:
    • Mondays 12:30-5:30 p.m. and
    • Thursdays 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. and
    • Saturdays 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.
  • Outgoing, confident and personable
  • Able to interact with volunteers of all ages and skill sets
  • Organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong verbal communication with the ability to delegate
  • Professional
  • Familiarity with online scheduling tools
  • Able to lift 35 pounds and able to stand for long periods of time

Job Description:

  • Assist in instructing and directing volunteers (i.e.: how to inspect, sort and box donations)
  • Assist in welcoming and training volunteers
  • Represent CAFB, contributing to the mission, the volunteers and the work at hand
  • Observe and report workflow, productivity and timeliness of daily volunteer groups
  • Be a key leader in enforcing and promoting PR safety rules/jobsite safety
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Product Recovery manager

VOLUNTEER RESOURCES INTERN

Internship Description:
The Volunteer Services Intern will provide key support to this CAFB department.  Gain valuable experience in marketing and volunteer management with a nonprofit agency in the following areas:

Recruitment and Scheduling: Schedule and coordinate individual volunteers and volunteer groups, verify group projects and update online calendar, respond to inquiries and recruit volunteers for daily shifts and seasonal events, coordinate daily tasks associated with volunteer participation, welcome volunteers and assist with check-in process, and maintain communication with new CSR volunteers and schedule CSR orientations.
Marketing: Develop a brief and concise presentation to recruit new companies to volunteer at CAFB and participate in informational fairs and seasonal community events by providing the public information on ways to support CAFB, collecting food and monetary donations, etc.
Stewardship: Create and maintain volunteer bulletin board, generate certificates and thank you notes, and maintain volunteer sign-in area including nametags, time sheets, and binders.
Data Collection and Management: Research and create a strategy to approach and recruit new companies to volunteer at CAFB, track volunteer information, maintain records, and create reports which are used to monitor programs, assess needs, identify trends, and broaden our reach into the community.

Internship Qualifications:

The Volunteer Resources Department is looking for a motivated, organized, detail-oriented intern who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and is interested in gaining experience with project management, marketing, and the nonprofit sector. This position is perfect for a student seeking academic credit. The ideal candidate will be professional, outgoing, confident, proficient with Microsoft Office products and Internet research, and able to multi-task. In addition, the ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills, initiative, discretion, good judgment, and a desire to learn.  This internship will require working some evening or weekend events.

Pay Rate: Unpaid/available for academic credit.
Dates Needed:  Fall, Spring and Summer semesters

STORY BANK COMMUNICATIONS VISTA

Ever wish you could do something meaningful to help those in Central Texas who are hungry?  Help the Food Bank tell its story. Commit one year of your life to create and manage a “Story Bank” of stories, testimonials (including photos and videos) from the Food Bank’s Partner Agencies, clients, volunteers, donors, board members and staff. Manage the processes and procedures of the online Story Bank. Bilingual in Spanish highly preferred.

Nearly one in five Central Texans are hungry.  82% of Food Bank Partner Agency recipients are food insecure. 49% of recipients experience outright hunger. (Source: Hunger in America 2006: Central Texas Report, in association with Feeding America)  Help our community look beyond the numbers, and to understand the lives of our neighbors in need.

In its 28th year of service, the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas (CAFB) currently provides food and grocery products to 355 Partner Agencies in 21 Central Texas counties. In 2008, CAFB distributed more than 17 million pounds of food. The CAFB service area covers 19,064 square miles in Central Texas.
